How to Get Your Foresight Work Published & AFIA Dinner
Thursday 14 July 6pm - 7.30pm AGSE Room 104, Restaurant TBA
Open to all AFI students and alumni
Have you written a great Foresight essay and am wondering what to do next? Wondered how to get your Futures
perspective into a prestigious academic journal? Interested to learn more about blogs, peer-to-peer hyperdistribution,
and open publishing? This AFIA session explores how to do 'due diligence' on a journal, where to get published, who to
approach, and why. Don't miss this opportunity to get tips on how to get published and enhance your Foresight career.
Session attendees will receive a handout of Foresight publishing links and resources.
Followed by an AFIA networking/social dinner in Hawthorn with presenters and participants - partners welcome.
Presenters
The following AFIA members may share anecdotes about their publishing experiences. This is an open Q&A,
so expect further insights to emerge from group discussion.
- Alex Burns (session facilitator, Smart Internet Technology CRC, Disinformation, 21C)
- Sera De Simone (MicroHelp, AFI monograph author)
- Josh Floyd (SUT National Centre for Sustainability, 'Journal of Futures Studies' author)
- Rowena Morrow (AFI Publications Coordinator)
- Jose Ramos (QUT PhD candidate, SUT Institute for Social Research, AFI monograph author)
- Chris Stewart (Emergence Consulting, AFI monograph author)
We may also be joined by two guest observers: Darren Sharp (Smart Internet Technology CRC, past editor
of Australian Policy Online) and Rosie X (convener of SUT's Convergent and Digital Journalism program, founder
of Australia's longest running e-zine Geekgirl). Jose's comments will be given in absentia by Alex.
All session attendees will receive a handout, and a copy of Chris Stewart's provocative essay 'A Meta-Analysis
of Recent Futures Research' (2005). Alex will audiotape the session for AFIA's archives and future use.
Agenda
The discussion will cover the following topics:
- Journal publishing, knowledge creation, and the Guru Syndrome
